Again, my second Father Gabriel Orthodox Christian web comic is based on my second comic strip of the same name. I have always had a soft spot for the homeless. We all have seen them. Some of us choose to ignore them and some of us choose to at least give them something whether it is a couple of dollars or food. There are numerous places in the Bible and the Holy Fathers that state how important it is to give a lending hand to the poor. Here is one of my favorite verses from the Bible:
Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. Psalm 41:1
I asked my parish priest once that I really want to help the homeless, but sometimes I’m afraid that they might be dangerous. After all, some of the ones I’ve seen seem to have mental problems. The priest told me that we certainly don’t want to endanger ourselves, so we can always help by either donating to a homeless shelter, or volunteering in a homeless shelter. There are so many ways we can help and it is not always safe approaching a homeless person. So we should just do what we can.
